AION 2 Beta and Open Tests — What Actually Existed
AION 2 has no beta. NCSOFT only ran the Launch Scale Test, which ended September 18, 2026. What it was called, what comes next, and what is not announced.
FAQ
Is there an AION 2 beta?
Is the AION 2 Launch Scale Test the same thing as the beta?
Will there be a second AION 2 test?
How do I get into the next AION 2 test?
Did AION 2 Launch Scale Test progress carry over to launch?
Was the AION 2 test a stress test?
Can I still install the AION 2 Playtest app on Steam?
AION 2 has no beta. NCSOFT has never used the word. The single pre-launch test was the Launch Scale Test (LST) on September 17-18, 2026, it is over, and the next way into the game is Advance Access on September 30 — a paid head start on the live build, not a test. This page exists because a large number of players are searching for a beta that was never announced under that name.
Does AION 2 have a beta?
No. There was no closed beta, no open beta and no second test. NCSOFT’s own announcement history never uses the word. Across the twenty most recent news posts on the two official Steam feeds — twelve on the retail app, eight on the playtest app — the term that appears is Launch Scale Test and “beta” appears zero times.
What did exist was a two-day infrastructure test that behaved like the open betas players are used to — free entry, no key, everyone welcome — which is exactly why the word stuck in search. NCSOFT simply chose a different name for it, and the name is the only official one.
What is the AION 2 beta actually called?
Officially it is the Launch Scale Test. Every search term below points at the same two-day event, and the right-hand column is the status you should treat as true. NCSOFT shortened the name to LST in its own posts, so the two labels mean one thing and there was never a separate test hiding behind either of them.

The naming split has one practical cost: searching “AION 2 beta news” returns guesswork, while searching “Launch Scale Test” returns NCSOFT’s own posts. If you want to check whether anything new has been announced, use the second phrase.
The later terms in the table are publisher and media shorthand, not NCSOFT wording. Outlets covering the test wrote “essentially an open beta” in the same paragraph as a quote from an announcement that says nothing of the sort.
What were the AION 2 Launch Scale Test dates and rules?
The test ran September 17-18, 2026, six hours per day and twelve hours in total. Day 1 opened at 6:00 AM PDT and Day 2 at 12:00 PM PDT — different start times, not a repeated window. Everything in the table below is NCSOFT’s own detail, and the timezone conversions for both days live in the AION 2 playtest schedule.
| Item | Official detail |
|---|---|
| Entry | “Open to everyone. No keys, no invites, no registration list” |
| Platforms | Steam (Playtest App 4972320) and the PURPLE launcher (3393110) |
| Play time | 6 hours per day; 12 hours total |
| Level cap | 37 |
| Progress | Carried from Day 1 into Day 2, then wiped entirely |
| Carry-over | None to Advance Access or launch |
| Shop, Quna, passes, memberships | All off |
| Market and player-to-player trading | Off |
| Founder’s Pack items | Not available |
Those two app IDs are a real trap. The playtest client and the retail game are separate Steam apps, so owning one does not give you the other. NCSOFT told Steam players to uninstall the Playtest app and download AION 2 separately before Advance Access; PURPLE players were told no action was needed. The preload and download guide covers the rest.
Will there be a second AION 2 test?
Not announced. As of September 22, 2026, the newest official AION 2 post is the September 19 announcement “Launch Scale Test Comes to a Close: What’s Next?”, and it points forward to Advance Access and launch — not to another test. If a second test is ever scheduled, that is where it appears first, and nothing on either feed mentions one today.
There is one piece of soft evidence, and it is worth labelling correctly. During an official livestream a host asked whether there would be another test and answered, on the spot, “Uh, no. Because early access is so soon.” That is spoken on an official channel but is not a published announcement, so treat it as a hint rather than a source. It matches the written record but is not something to cite.
The only reliable places to watch are the two official announcement feeds. They are the same URL with a different app ID, and both are free to follow:
- Retail game news:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3393110 - Playtest client news:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4972320
Anything a website or video claims about test number two that does not appear on one of those two feeds is speculation, including this page.
What if you missed the test — can you still play early?
Yes, but only by paying. The one remaining pre-launch route is Founder’s Pack Advance Access, which runs September 30 to October 4, 2026 and is the live global build rather than a test. Your progress there carries into launch, which is the main thing the pack buys. Everything else waits for the free October 5 launch.
| Route | Dates | Cost | Progress kept? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch Scale Test | Sep 17-18, 2026 | Free | No — wiped |
| Founder’s Pack Advance Access | Sep 30 - Oct 4, 2026 | Paid pack | Yes |
| Free-to-play launch | Oct 5, 2026 | Free | Yes |
Advance Access also comes with a platform lock, so read the Advance Access guide before buying, and compare the three tiers in the Founder’s Pack comparison if the head start is the only thing you want from it. If you are deciding whether the five days are worth the money at all, the honest framing is in the release date and launch time guide.
Why you cannot use the test as a guide reference
Because almost nothing the test showed survives contact with launch. Three deliberate limits made it non-transferable: a full character wipe, a level cap of 37, and an economy with every trading and payment system switched off. Between them they remove almost everything a normal guide would need to measure, which is why no honest numbers exist yet.
First, every character was wiped. Any level, item or currency figure you saw — yours or anyone else’s — has no continuation into October 5.
Second, the level cap was 37. That is a test ceiling, not the live level cap, which NCSOFT has not published. Content above 37 was simply locked, so no endgame loop was exercised.
Third, the economy was switched off. With the shop, the Market, the Quna exchange and player-to-player trading all disabled, the test could not demonstrate prices, drop value or progression pacing. Combine that with a twelve-hour window and you get a build where class feel was testable and almost nothing else was.
That is the useful takeaway rather than a caveat: the test was genuinely good for auditioning a class, and useless as a basis for rates, rankings or tier claims. There is no global-parity data yet, which is why the class tier list is still empty of rankings and why the classes overview sorts by role instead.

Evidence level: Official. The test’s name, dates, entry rules, level cap, wipe and disabled systems all come from NCSOFT’s own announcements and its September 16 press release. The absence of a second test is a statement about the official announcement feeds as read on September 22, 2026, not an inference. The livestream remark about a second test is described here as unofficial and is not used as evidence. The only claim resting on a third party is the press and community habit of saying “beta”, which is framed as terminology rather than as a fact about the game.
