FAQ

How many customization options does AION 2 have?
The official figure is over 200 customization options, from the Steam store page. NCSOFT describes it as the most advanced character customization system ever seen in an MMORPG, giving you hundreds of options. Both are publisher counts, and NCSOFT has not published an itemised breakdown of which options make up the 200.
Which classes and factions can I pick at character creation?
Every combination is open. AION 2 launches with eight classes, and both Elyos and Asmodians can play all eight, with male and female available for each. No class is locked to one faction, so the two decisions are independent.
Can I change my appearance after creating a character?
Yes, but not freely. An official hot fix for the playtest app on September 18, 2026 confirms that appearance change tickets exist in the game, and that characters below level 10 could not use one during the test. What a ticket costs, whether any are free, and how many changes it covers are all unannounced.
How many character slots does AION 2 give you?
Not announced. NCSOFT has not published the number of character slots per world for the global build. In the Korea and Taiwan service, deleting a character does not free the slot immediately — it takes roughly a week — so plan your first few characters around trying classes rather than deleting and rerolling.
Are character slots shared between Elyos and Asmodians?
Unconfirmed. NCSOFT has not published how slots are counted across factions or worlds in the global build, and the Korean and Taiwanese service separated worlds by faction. Until that is announced, treat each world as its own character list.
Was the wardrobe available during the AION 2 Launch Scale Test?
Partially. The August 26, 2026 announcement said "Closet will be disabled. Default outfits only." Announcements from September 16 onward dropped that line, and NCSOFT later added Wardrobe and Character Customization to the test. Whether the test version matches the live build is unconfirmed.
What are outfits, mounts and wings in AION 2?
Steam lists countless outfits, mounts and wings to collect. The official teaser site also describes companions that follow you, transform into rideable mounts and provide benefits such as auto-looting. How these are obtained in the global build — shop, drop or craft — has not been announced.

Character creation is one of the few parts of AION 2 that NCSOFT has been willing to talk about in numbers. The marketing figure is precise, the confirmed detail behind it is thinner than the number suggests, and one feature players ask about most — changing your look later — is confirmed to exist but not confirmed to be affordable or repeatable.

How many customization options does AION 2 have?

The official figure is over 200 customization options. The Steam store page describes “one of the most advanced character creation systems in an MMORPG” with “over 200 customization options”, and NCSOFT’s press material calls it “the most advanced character customization system ever seen in an MMORPG”. Changing your look later needs an appearance change ticket with unannounced cost and limits.

Two caveats matter more than the number itself. It is a publisher count, not an independently measured one, and NCSOFT has not published an itemised list of what the 200 options cover. Any page that gives you a per-category breakdown is either quoting the Korea/Taiwan client or inventing structure the publisher never published.

Which dimensions does the count cover?

NCSOFT has not broken the 200 down by category, so no official dimension list exists. The only dimension-level observation available comes from the Korea and Taiwan build, where face customization is considerably deeper than body customization (KR/TW). Treat that as useful context rather than a global specification.

What do you actually choose at character creation?

Four decisions: faction, class, gender and appearance. Faction and class are independent — all eight classes are open to both Elyos and Asmodians, and both genders are available for each class. The appearance decision is the one that takes the longest, and it is the one with the fewest published rules.

Decision What is confirmed for the global build
Faction Elyos or Asmodian — see the Elyos versus Asmodians guide
Class All eight launch classes, with no faction lock — full breakdown in the classes overview
Gender Male and female available for every class
Appearance Over 200 customization options, per the official figure
Later changes Appearance change tickets exist; their cost and limits are not announced

The class and faction decisions are the two that carry into play. If you are still weighing classes, the tier list page explains why no verified ranking exists before launch and how to choose by role instead.

Can you change your appearance after creation?

Yes — appearance change tickets exist in the game, and that is nearly everything that is confirmed. An official hot fix announcement for the playtest app on September 18, 2026 confirmed both the item and one restriction: during the Launch Scale Test, characters below level 10 could not use an appearance change ticket. Nothing about price, availability or frequency was included.

The known and unknown sides of this system are worth keeping separate, because most pages blur them.

Question Answer
Do appearance change tickets exist? Confirmed — official hot fix notice, September 18, 2026
Any level restriction? Confirmed during the test — under level 10 could not use one
What does a ticket cost? Not announced
Are any tickets free? Not announced
How many changes does one ticket cover? Not announced
Does the level 10 restriction apply at launch? Unconfirmed — it was a test-build rule
Is there a free way to change appearance? Not announced — a ticket is the only confirmed method
How does the Korea/Taiwan build handle it? KR/TW only — changing appearance requires a special currency and is not freely repeatable

That last row is why so many guides call AION 2 appearance changes paid: accurate for the Korea and Taiwan service, not a global confirmation. The global versus KR/TW comparison sets out which observations travel across and which do not.

How should you plan your character slots?

NCSOFT has not published how many character slots the global build gives you per world, so plan around the two frictions that are known. You will probably want to test several of the eight classes, and in the Korea/Taiwan build deleting a character does not free the slot immediately — it takes roughly a week (KR/TW).

That combination is what makes rerolling expensive. If you create one character, play it for an evening, delete it and expect to try the next class straight away, you may be waiting. Plan your first characters as if each one is staying.

A note on the advice below: this is our recommendation, not an NCSOFT rule. Nothing here is publisher-confirmed, and the slot count itself is unpublished.

  • Treat your first two characters as permanent, and pick classes you genuinely want to play rather than ones you want to test.
  • Spread those classes across the two factions instead of stacking them on one side. If you later want to try the other faction, that character already exists and costs you no new slot.
  • Check the server list and regions guide before committing, so a character you plan to keep is not stranded on a world you would rather leave.
  • Do not spend an appearance change ticket on a character you are still deciding whether to keep, since the number of tickets you get is unknown.

What are outfits, mounts and wings?

Cosmetics are a headline feature, not a side system. The Steam description promises “countless outfits, mounts, and wings to collect”, and the official global teaser site extends that to companions: “Collect lovable companions that follow you around and transforms into rideable mounts and can provide benefits such as auto-looting”.

Two things follow from that wording. Wings are a collection category alongside outfits, not just a visual toggle on your character, and at least some companions double as mounts with utility attached — auto-looting is named in official copy, not community guesswork.

How any of it is acquired in the global build is not announced. Whether cosmetics come from the shop, from drops, from crafting or from a mix of all three is unpublished, so treat any article that gives you a source and a price with suspicion. For what NCSOFT has confirmed about launch companions specifically, the pre-registration rewards page covers the pets handed out to newsletter subscribers.

Was the wardrobe available during the Launch Scale Test?

It was disabled at first, then added. The official August 26, 2026 announcement for the test stated “Closet will be disabled. Default outfits only.” Announcements from September 16 onward dropped that line, and NCSOFT later added both Wardrobe and Character Customization to the test, which is why testers could finally use the outfit system before launch.

Stage Wardrobe / closet status
Announced August 26, 2026 Disabled — “Default outfits only”
From September 16, 2026 announcements The disabled line was removed
Later in the test Wardrobe and Character Customization added
Global launch, October 5, 2026 Unconfirmed — the test build is not the live build

The playtest schedule page reproduces those announcements in full, including the two different daily start times. The practical caution is simple: a feature being enabled in a scale test is evidence that it exists, not evidence about how it will be configured on launch day. If you are planning around cosmetics before Advance Access opens on September 30, plan for the possibility that the wardrobe looks different from the test version.
